There are no penalties for choosing a ship not in your career e.g. The ships are: Escort = Tactical Officer, Cruiser = Engineering Officer, and Science Vessel = Science Officer. ![]() Ship types are meant for certain careers, and you will get bonuses if you choose the ship in that career. Cannons can only be mounted in front slots. Any class can mount lesser cannon weapons. Commander(10-19) = Tier 2 Vessel where you must select between Cruiser, Escort or Science Classes (Hint: Many players seem choose the firepower of the Escort Class which exclusively mounts Dual and Dual Heavy Cannons). As you progress, the upper floor of the Shipyard will be used to access subsequent ships and ship equipment which are earned by rank: The Shipyard is where the outfitting, etc. I will always help where I can though.Once you are commissioned to "captain" a starship at the beginning rank of Lieutenant, you are sent to Earth Dock to collect, outfit, name and modify your vessel. I can answer questions too, but I most likely wont be able to instantly respond. There is also an STO keybind program that can add complex binds for you, again google will return some tutorials on how to use it. Just google 'STO keybind guide' 'STO Keybind tutorial' there are a few posts on reddit too about how some other people have set their own keybinds up. Again that's just MY personal preference, and that's why I prefer using a control pad. Just doesn't feel like I'm playing a game, I'm just clicking stuff. However, combat is much more fluid and feels like an actual game for me, instead of just clicking everything with my mouse. I'ts by no means complete and you have to use keyboard & mouse for some things still. I used a keybind file for ground & space ( you have to have seperate files for them), and i'm constantly updating it as I play more & more on PC. I primarily played consoles growing up and just got used to a controller, there's no right or wrong way to play, you play with what you feel most comfortable with □ and for me, it's holding a control pad lol.įor the most part I've managed to mimic the console controls on the PC version. That's just my personal preference though. I started playing STO on PS4 after trying to get used to keyboard & mouse and I just couldn't do it. Yes you absolutely can use a controller, I use one myself. Star Trek New Horizons: Subreddit for the community-developed Star Trek-themed Stellaris total conversion mod.
